Company & Manufacturing
Parkesine Materials Technologies is a manufacturer of high-performance industrial fabrics and membranes (smart skins) used to protect structures and goods across construction, logistics, and advertising applications. The name Parkesine references the first man-made plastic, patented in 1862, reflecting our heritage in material innovation. We produce woven polyolefin-based materials engineered for durability and performance.
Manufacturing is based in Jiaozhou, a sub-city of Qingdao in China's Shandong Province, positioned near one of the world's largest ports. We ship internationally, including to the UK and EU, using buyer-agreed Incoterms and carrier options. Lead times depend on product specification, printing, and order size.
Smart skins are engineered protective layers - typically woven PP/PE fabrics and laminated/coated variants - used as building envelope membranes, logistics packaging wraps, and printable safety/advertising meshes. We serve three main industries: construction (roofing underlayment, house wrap, metal wrap), industrial logistics and packaging (protective wraps for steel and goods), and large-format advertising (scaffold wrapping). We combine high-volume manufacturing with quality assurance methods to deliver performance that meets customer expectations.
We use digitalised quality assurance to describe in-line process control and inspection intended to reduce variability in coated and laminated fabrics - particularly for safety-critical uses like scaffold netting, building wraps, and high-tension packaging wraps. We employ automated optical inspection (AOI) and laser gauge control to detect weave defects and coating-thickness inconsistencies. AOI uses imaging and software analysis to find defects during and after manufacturing, supporting faster and more consistent inspection than purely manual methods.
We are export-oriented and capable of large-scale production. Vertically integrated manufacturing steps (tape extrusion, weaving, coating/lamination, membrane production, printing) enable us to control consistency. Digitalised quality assurance (AOI, laser gauges) reduces defects and variability. We support repeat orders through controlled specs, documented QC checkpoints, and agreed acceptance tolerances. Share forecast volumes so we can plan production allocation.
Products
We offer a structured product range including synthetic roofing underlayments, house wraps and breathable membranes, lumber wraps, VCI metal wraps for corrosion protection, and printable mesh for scaffold substrates. All products align with recognized industry groupings: building wraps function as water-resistive barriers that block bulk water while remaining vapour-permeable, and VCI packaging is an established method for corrosion protection during storage and transport.
Synthetic polyolefin underlayments address common felt drawbacks: they resist water absorption, reduce wrinkling, and offer longer UV degradation windows. A key advantage is the 'dry-in' benefit - temporary weather protection that allows schedule flexibility before final roofing is installed. Independent industry sources describe synthetic underlayments as offering months of UV exposure protection depending on product and conditions, compared to faster degradation with traditional felt.
Exposure duration and walkability vary by product. Always follow the roll label and technical data sheet for the maximum UV exposure window and slip-resistance specifications. Our underlayments feature worker-safety surface finishes including grey anti-slip mesh and microfibre grip surfaces, making them easier and safer to handle than traditional felts.
House wrap (WRB) resists bulk water while allowing water vapour to diffuse outward so the wall can dry - we call this selective permeability. Perm ratings measure this using ASTM E96 test methods, and different materials are grouped into categories to help design drying potential. We offer three house-wrap approaches: non-woven coated, microporous sandwich, and woven high-strength. We can advise on selection once we understand your climate zone, wall build-up (including insulation type), and target drying direction. Request the technical data sheet for verified perm values and the ASTM E96 method used.
House wraps are water-resistive (designed to stop bulk water intrusion) rather than fully waterproofing like primary roofing membranes. They are typically vapour-permeable to support outward drying. An air barrier primarily controls air leakage and convective moisture movement, while a vapour control layer primarily controls vapour diffusion (measured in perms). The same layer can sometimes serve multiple functions, but correct placement depends on wall/roof assembly and climate. Our house wrap selection balances bulk-water resistance with vapour movement, consistent with mainstream building-envelope guidance.
Temporary exposure time varies by product and site conditions (UV, wind, job duration). Use the published exposure rating on the technical data sheet and installation guide for the specific product. Major membrane brands typically publish explicit uncovered-period ratings measured in months, reflecting that this is normally a product-level specification rather than a generic claim.
Lumber wrap protects timber from UV, bulk water, and condensation. Non-breathable plastic can trap moisture, creating a greenhouse effect that increases the risk of fungal staining and other damage. Breathable or micro-perforated designs enable controlled ventilation while providing a protective outer layer, helping reduce condensation-driven issues that occur when moisture is trapped in an enclosed space during storage and transport.
We define a tiered lumber-wrap range from Standard/RC through Select, Premium, Prestige, and Ultra, plus absorbent-backed variants (Paperback and Hynwback) for higher moisture-content lumber. These tiers are positioned around durability factors (coating thickness, weave strength, reinforced staple strips) and the handling/transport environment (rail wind exposure, automated wrapper tension, long-term outdoor storage, trans-oceanic transport). Select by use-case first: transport mode, storage duration, wrapper machine tension, and moisture profile of the timber.
Blue stain commonly refers to sap stain caused by fungi that can discolour wood - a practical trade issue in wood packaging and export. Packaging cannot cure blue stain, but it can support prevention by managing the conditions fungi prefer, particularly moisture and poor ventilation. Our focus on condensation control and breathable/micro-perforated wrap designs aligns with the general prevention principle: keep moisture low and enable ventilation rather than trapping dampness against the wood surface.
VCI (vapour corrosion inhibitor) packaging works by releasing corrosion-inhibiting molecules into an enclosed air space. These molecules form a thin protective layer on metal surfaces that helps interrupt corrosion reactions (moisture and oxygen-driven electrochemistry). We integrate VCI technology into metal wraps and achieve this via sublimation, surface layer formation, and passivation - reducing electron flow between anodic and cathodic sites. This can reduce the need for messy greases and oils, supporting faster use on arrival. Residue expectations depend on VCI chemistry and metallurgy compatibility - confirm with a trial shipment and documented compatibility test where relevant.
Scaffold & Advertising
We offer printable scaffold wrap and mesh substrates engineered to balance print visibility with wind-load reduction via an openness factor (porosity). Open mesh reduces wind loads compared with solid panels - this aligns with temporary-works guidance that solid sheeting behaves like a sail and can significantly increase wind loads. Wind performance depends on openness factor, fixing method, and scaffold design. Always confirm wind-load design with the scaffold/temporary works engineer before installation.
Scaffold netting and sheeting must be part of the scaffold design and fixation plan. Official UK scaffolding safety guidance explicitly cautions against attaching sheeting or debris netting without informing those responsible for scaffold design and erection, because the structure may need to be designed for additional loads. We supply substrate options, but the principal contractor and scaffold designer must approve selection, fixing pattern, and wind-load assumptions.
Safety & Standards
Flame-retardant options may be available by specification. Flame-retardant performance for polyolefin products is typically achieved via specific additive systems and must be validated against the relevant standard for your application and jurisdiction (construction, industrial packaging, or temporary works). Confirm your regulatory requirements and required test standard during quotation.
We validate products using ASTM-based standards for coated fabrics and wraps. Key standards include ASTM D4533 (trapezoid tear test for geotextiles) and ASTM E96 (vapour permeance desiccant and water methods - results vary by method and are not interchangeable). We can share relevant test reports and specifications upon request, including the exact test method and acceptance tolerances used for QC.
Our substrates are primarily polyolefin-based, which have strong mechanical properties and are used extensively in industrial applications. Recyclability in practice depends on local collection capabilities and product construction (coatings and laminates). We offer recycled-content options such as Standard/RC lumber wrap grades using post-consumer recycled resin. Ask us which grades are mono-material versus multi-layer.
Most performance failures in wraps and membranes come from mismatch between product and assembly conditions (vapour control strategy, climate), poor detailing (penetrations and flashing), exceeding UV exposure ratings, or mechanical damage (tears, fastener pull-through). For wraps, detailing must be designed to drain outward and vapour-permeable layers must be part of an overall moisture strategy. For scaffolding, the biggest gotcha is wind load - attaching netting changes scaffold loading and must be considered in design. For logistics wraps, condensation management is critical: non-breathable packaging can trap moisture, while breathable/micro-perforated options ventilate and reduce condensation-related risks like fungal staining or corrosion.
Commercial
Custom printing and private labelling are available subject to technical feasibility (substrate, ink system, opacity, roll width) and minimum order volumes. We operate printing capabilities and frame custom branding as a meaningful B2B value driver - for example, turning wraps and meshes into travelling billboards for clients. Share artwork early so we can confirm technical constraints.
Pricing is quoted per specification and order size - including grade, roll dimensions, coatings/laminations, print requirements, and shipping terms. Share your use case and annual volume estimate so we can quote the most cost-effective configuration. Final price depends on specification, volumes, and Incoterms.
MOQs and lead times depend on grade, printing, and order size. We can provide samples for evaluation. Production lead times are confirmed at order acceptance.
Our onboarding path follows a typical industrial materials process: clarify use case, select the right product family and grade, confirm testing and specification requirements, then produce under controlled QC and ship via agreed logistics terms. The process includes sharing your use case and target performance, confirming product family and grade, evaluating samples if needed, reviewing technical feedback, confirming final specification (roll size, coating, lamination, printing, tolerances), agreeing commercial terms (Incoterms, lead time, payment), running production with in-line QC, performing pre-ship checks and packing, and arranging shipment with documentation. Lead times and documentation vary by product and destination - confirm requirements for customs clearance and site compliance during quotation.
We ship internationally. Incoterms allocation of delivery responsibilities are defined contractually and vary by customer preference and product. We work with buyer-agreed Incoterms and carrier options. Lead times depend on product specification, printing, and order size.
